Time forgives no one, especially Romanian rappers. That’s how Tatae changed his name to Tata Vlad, fed up with how children had started greeting him on the steps of his apartment building: “Good day, sir, paps Tatae”. The statement came in an interview for the magazine The Only Women Is Your Mum.
Tata Vlad confessed: “I’m cursed, I smile and thank you”.
The artist moved to Spain, because he could no longer stand the changes in the Pantelimon.
Pantelimon is a sprawling communist-era housing district in eastern Bucharest, comparable to East Berlin's Plattenbau complexes or Paris's banlieues - a massive concrete housing project that has become a symbol of post-socialist urban decay and recent gentrification.
People started painting their blocks. Damn, I read on a block “Look at the sky” I fell into depression, I admit. So, I went to Spain, to Alcalá De Henares where Romanians of all kinds: from Bacau, from Ferentari, from Berceni – still hold the flag high.
II feel better here! I look at collared pigeons, I still hear gunshots, the neighborhood has “authentic character”, not like that gentrified Pantelimonu. Here there is freedom – if you want to walk around with a sieve on your head, walk around with a sieve on your head, no one asks you anything!

TATA Vlad reinvented
And if he feels that he is no longer relevant to contemporary times, we can encourage TATA Vlad to change his stage name to Copilu’ Vlad, as he advances towards the golden years of old age.
For example, the stage name Copilu has been freed for some time since the manelist Adrian Copilul Minune gave up the “child” in him.
He has grown up now, changed his style and brand but no one recognizes him anymore.
He himself confessed that the whole musical environment has changed – now at weddings, no one throws money at them anymore, I transfer it directly to Revolut. That nostalgia of taking big banknotes to your forehead while you sing is gone. There is no more respect, sir. Now you don’t have to make eye contact with donors; you’ve received your 10 lei fee, adiós, amigos!
Tatae (now Tata Vlad) is a veteran Romanian rapper who emerged in the 1990s underground scene, known for his gritty street narratives and authentic Bucharest slang. His original stage name "Tatae" was a playful diminutive of "Tata" (meaning "Dad" or "Father" in Romanian).
In Romanian popular music culture, stage names follow specific patterns that reflect age and status. "Copilu'" means "The Kid" - a common prefix for young performers establishing themselves. "Minune" means "Wonder" or "Miracle," typical of the flamboyant manele genre (Romania's version of Turkish-influenced folk-pop).
Adrian's full stage name "Adrian Copilul Minune" literally translates to "Adrian the Wonder Kid." The joke here is generational: as he aged from a young prodigy into middle age, the "Kid" part became absurd - imagine if Justin Timberlake still insisted on being called "Baby Justin" at 40. So Adrian dropped "Copilul" and became simply "Adrian Minune."
Tata Vlad: AI Album
Inspired by this interview, TATA Vlad wrote the first lyrics with the AI. He also put them on the artificial voice; here’s what came out:
Until yesterday, you wouldn’t even notice her,
a faint shadow sliding across your eyes.
You thought of devouring her whole,
one breath, one bite, all at once.
You guessed at the size of her pension,
the way she dressed —
only funeral black,
only holy rags for kissing relics.
Arsenie Boca… clap, clap, clap…
on her knees… clap… clap…
and I see her soaking through.
She grabs her umbrella,
turbo pistons firing — clap, clap, clap.
She’s a diva, serene,
laughing in the corner of her mouth
like she just scored a discount on bacon.
